How You Can Help

Donate Today and Make a Difference

Hearing Dogs NZ is an independent charitable trust that assesses, selects, trains and places specially trained Hearing Dogs to internationally recognised standards with deaf and severely hearing-impaired New Zealanders. We receive no government funding and make no charge to the deaf person receiving the dog, but seek support from individuals, groups and organisations to help train and place these wonderful, portable ‘hearing aids’!

BECOME A SPONSOR OF HEARING DOGS

Hearing Dogs NZ is actively seeking the support of commercial organisations who realise there could be an opportunity to create a mutually advantageous marketing relationship between their organisation and Hearing Dogs. Such support might be provided through a cash donation, or through the provision of goods and services that may be required by Hearing Dogs on a one-off or on-going basis.

SPONSOR THE TRAINING OF A HEARING DOG

It costs approximately $30,000 to train every Hearing Dog put through the Hearing Dog training programme.

Sponsoring this training can be a great way for a commercial organisation, social club, service club, or simply a group of individuals to really make a difference in the deaf community – and to become actively involved in the charitable work your funds are enabling.

Other Ways You Can Help Us

It costs a lot of money to run the activities of Hearing Dogs – selecting, assessing, training and placing Hearing Dogs, and one of the most effective ways in which you can help, is to help us with funding on an on-going basis.

If you would like to support the work of Hearing Dogs but do not have the funds to become either a Trust Sponsor, Dog Training Sponsor or Co-sponsor, then becoming a Friend of the Trust might be the best solution.

Hearing Dogs are trained at our National Training Centre in New Plymouth. Depending on the age of the dog when we get it, it can be necessary for us to place a Hearing Dog in training with a ‘socialiser’ until the dog is old enough to begin its sound- training (usually around 8 months old).

Taxpayers are able to claim a 33.3% rebate for donations to charities. However, this is not normally available until a tax return is filed and a receipt is obtained. Payroll Giving is a new initiative whereby employees can make regular charitable donations and receive the tax refund without waiting until the year end.

Leaving a legacy to Hearing Dogs can be a great way of supporting the Trust in the future. However, you may not know how to incorporate your wishes in your will.

The easiest way of doing this is by a Codicil (an amendment or addendum to your exisiting will) or incorporating appropriate wording into any new will you are drawing up.

We are frequently asked to give short presentations to service groups, clubs and other gatherings; however, we have limited people trained to undertake such engagements.
